Here I was attempting to portray suburban life as I see it ( at least in a general sense). For me suburbia represents a very banal, but safe, place to be. The black outlined character is meant to representative of danger in the minds of people who feel threatened but have no reason to be. It seems to me that as we become safer, healthier, and longer-lived, we still retain a wildly exaggerated fear of evil ( crime, terrorism, immigrants...take your pick). I portrayed the dog in the piece showing no fear of the "stranger" to illustrate the fact that very few people really pose any threat to us but that fact can be hard for humans to accept.
